Unions Declare Partial Victory Against Obama?s Pacific Trade Deal
On Friday, labor movement groups collaborated to obtain enough votes to block Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), a worker-aid program that had been an important part of a bill that would have given President Obama fast-track authority to expedite his support of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. Unions are opposed to TPP, comparing the trade pact to the North American Free Trade Agreement in 2004, which they argue led to the disappearance of many union jobs.
