Unions join forces with Turkish protesters
Anti-government protestors in Istanbul received the bolstering support of Turkish trade unions Tuesday. The 240,000 member strong KESK confederation of public sector workers has announced a two-day strike in protest of the governing party, which it has branded as paternalistic and authoritarian. Union officials offered support to the demonstrations after security forces reportedly used excessive force on the largely peaceful protests. The movement is seemingly gaining momentum as protests are reported to have spread to 67 of Turkey?s 81 provinces.
