Unions join in push for charter change
Philadelphia unions have launched an effort to amend the city?s charter. The proposed change would require the mayor to gain permission from the Council in order to challenge an arbitration decision. Agitation efforts were inspired by the mayor?s appeal of arbitration awards granted to firefighters on the basis that they were unaffordable. The unions are in the process of collecting a necessary 20,000 signatures in order to petition for the amendment.
