Unions Say Workers' Rights Curtailed Under FAA Funding Deal
Representatives for rail and aviation unions are asking that labor provisions in a new bill be changed. The aviation safety and security bill is a compromise between the Senate and the House. The bill would change the rules for runoff elections, and make the threshold for winning higher, as well as requiring more supervision from the National Mediation Board. While most unions that will be affected by the bill are opposed to it, some unions have endorsed the bill. Opponents say that the labor provisions are inappropriate for a safety bill.
