Unions Shut Down Finnish Forest Industry
More than 25,000 workers walked off the job Monday, shutting down most of Finland's forestry industry in a two-day strike to protest planned layoffs. The strike began at 6 a.m. and was to last 48 hours, the 50,000-member Finnish Paper Workers Union said. Electrical workers also joined the protest, and office personnel in the forest industry were planning a one-day walkout for Wednesday.
