Unions Struggle as Communications Industry Shifts
The Communications Workers of America is finding it increasingly difficult to organize workers as the makeup of the communications industry changes. With the rapid growth of nonunion wireless phone carriers like Verizon, the CWA is struggling to maintain union membership and faces an uphill battle for survival. Cingular Wireless is currently the only unionized wireless carrier, while both Verizon and Comcast, the nation's largest cable provider, have been heavily targeted by the CWA, but are opposed to any union efforts.
