Unions warn of coordinated strikes over pensions
British public sector unions are preparing for a fight to preserve their pensions. Teachers union have already voted to ballot members about strikes as soon as June, joining the Prison Officers Association. Unison, which represents more than a million public sector workers says that they are trying to negotiate with the government, but that if it continues the way it is going, a sustained strike is very possible. The British government is looking to cut pension costs, which it says are unsustainable in the current economic climate. Other unions are looking at balloting their members this fall.
