Unite trade union calls for general strike
Britain's Unite union, which represents 1.4 million workers, is calling for a general strike against austerity measures. There are questions as to whether the union would be able to call a general strike or whether it would be deemed illegal. Other unions say that they support the idea, but would need more information before signing on. The Trades Union Council will consider the proposal in April.
