United Airlines it will drastically cut flights from its unprofitable Cleveland hub
Cleveland?s airport will lose about 60% of its United Airlines flights and hundreds of jobs. The airline has said that the most should alleviate the millions in losses that the company experiences as a result of oversupplying the Cleveland market. The reduction will mean a loss of about 430 airport operations jobs and 40 catering positions. The general sentiment of those familiar with the industry is that the move by United is just another in a long line of consolidation and job reductions made by the major airlines in ?secondary cities? across America. The job loss estimates do not include secondary effects from the reduction in traffic, such as the potential downsizing of the Transportation Security Administration?s staff or the loss of hotel and hospitality jobs no longer needed to accommodate so many people coming to the airport to work or travel.
