United Auto Workers Stung by Tough Contract Talks
In Detroit, automobile manufacturers such as Ford, Fiat Chrysler and General Motors have become profitable again and employees will receive wage increases in new contracts that they recently ratified. Even though employees will be well compensated in the future, these new contracts were not easy to obtain. In fact, most of these contracts hardly win back the concessions that unions made to auto manufacturers when they were struggling. Despite workers' frustration with the negotiations and certain aspects of the contract, some workers will receive their first wage increase in over a decade.
