United Farm Workers continues to try to revitalize union membership after surge of publicity from organizing efforts this past summer
Organizing efforts have been rising in prominence across the country since the pandemic; however, union activity has not taken hold as strongly on the California fields amongst farm workers. Over the years, the United Farm Workers union has experienced various setbacks as overtime pay requirements have been phased out and union membership has dwindled. The march to Sacramento this past summer helped get a bill signed into law to make union voting easier for farm workers, as the UFW attempts to revitalize and grow its membership. Many California producers have resisted this growing union presence though and claim that they can provide fair wages and work conditions without the presence of the union.
