United Continental Holdings Inc. will pay $62.5 million in notes to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. over the next seven months to fulfill part of the obligations that United Airlines incurred during its bankruptcy. The PBGC, a federal agency charged with assuming pension plans when firms can no longer support them, took over United's pensions in 2005. United and Continental Airlines have since merged, and recently met profit goals that triggered the payout.
