University of Maryland Medical Center reaches contract deal with residents union
Residents and fellows at the University of Maryland Medical Center are now represented by a union formed last year through AFT Maryland. While unionization among Baltimore-area doctors is rare, it follows recent organizing by nurses at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital and other health care workers in the state. The hospital says medical education remains central to its mission and praised the role of residents and fellows in providing patient care. This marks another step in a growing trend of union activity among hospital staff in Maryland.
