University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to shut down two-year satellite campuses
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee proposed a plan to close two satellite campuses that offer two-year degrees, and the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents voted in approval of the plan. The university will discontinue the College of General Studies and the other departments at these campuses, and thirty-five tenured faculty members will be laid off as well. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s provost states that student enrollment at two-year colleges in Wisconsin has significantly decreased in recent years, and the cost per student at two-year programs is more expensive than the per-student cost for bachelor, master, and PhD programs. The market demand for two-year programs has declined and the programs are not cost-effective, and cutting the two-year satellite campuses will improve the university's financial well-being.
