US Airways mechanics union wants to strike
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) leaders representing the mechanics and ground workers of US Airways have requested that they be allowed to declare an impasse. Negotiations have drug on since 2011 without much progress. Even if the ?release? from negotiations is granted, the union must spend 30 days in a cooling-off period before it can vote to strike. In 2010, the strike by the ground workers and mechanics lasted 6-days. The company has stated that it believes that the request to be released will be denied and that new sessions of talks with federal mediators will be scheduled soon.
