US Airways reaches tentative agreement with mechanics union
US Airways has a tentative labor agreement with its mechanics and equipment service workers eliminating the threat of a strike and clearing a would-be issue for the company?s merger with American Airlines. The negotiations have lasted more than two years and at one point the threat of a strike hung heavy as US Airways employees asserted that their counterparts at American Airlines were being paid more for the same work. Although the agreement was approved by union representatives and company officials, it must still go before the union?s 11,000 members for a vote. The new contract would increase salaries, add vacation time, increase sick pay, and improve the current pension plan.
