US Airways Union Sends Contract for Vote
US Airways pilots will soon be voting on a new contract, which includes a five-year pay cut of 18 percent, reduced vacation and benefits. It is estimated the agreement will save U.S. Air 1.8 billion through 2009. Even with the agreement, the company will ask a bankruptcy court judge to allow them to make temporary cuts to 23 percent of all its unions' workers. These moves along with management cuts are an attempt to avoid liquidating US Air by early next year.
