US Department of Labor finds Las Vegas construction company in violation of Fair Labor Standards Act
The United States Department of Labor found that Colvin Construction, a Las Vegas construction company, violated labor laws and did not pay employees overtime wages. On average employees worked 55 hours a week, but were paid the same wages for overtime hours. Company management also instructed workers to log fewer hours than they actually worked, and threatened to withhold pay if workers didn’t comply. A federal judge ruled that Colvin Construction violated the Fair Labor Standards Act, and moving forward Colvin Construction will change how worker hours are tracked and will allow workers to individually input their hours. Colvin Construction will be required to pay a total of $550,000 in back pay to workers, damage fees, and penalties.
