US Department of Labor recovers $4.83 million in back wages, damages for more than 4,500 Wal-Mart workers
The Labor Department announced that Wal-Mart has agreed to pay over $4.8 million in back wages and damages to over 4,500 employees. An investigation found violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The company will also pay civil penalties. According to the investigation, Wal-Mart failed to compensate some employees for overtime by misclassifying them as exempt. The Labor Department said that misclassification of workers is a problem, and employers should be aware of the consequences.
