US jobs to increase 10.8 percent by 2022, labor growth to slow
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics? employment projections predict that between 2012 and 2022 the number of jobs in the U.S. will grow by 10.8%. That is an increase of approximately 16 million jobs. The labor force is projected to grow by 0.5% annually over the course of the next 10 years, which is down from 0.7% annually in the past decade. This slowing of the labor force growth is projected to reduce the growth of GDP to 2.6% annually, down from 3.0%. Jobs in the healthcare and social service sectors are expected to grow the fastest at 13.6% over the next decade, followed closely by professional and business services. The report also projects growth in construction, though not enough to return to the sector?s prerecession levels.
