US to impose visa restrictions on officials, alleging ties to Cuban labor program
Visa restrictions have been tightened against officials from Africa, the Caribbean, and Brazil over alleged connections to Cuba’s overseas medical program. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the State Department revoked the visas of Brazilian health official Mozart Julio Tabosa Sales and former Pan American Health Organization official Alberto Kleiman, while other affected individuals were not named. Washington contends the Cuban program exploits medical workers and diverts earnings to the Cuban government, a charge Cuba and its allies dismiss as politically driven. The decision reflects the Trump administration’s hard-line policy toward Cuba and ongoing tensions surrounding its medical diplomacy efforts.
