USPS files unfair labor practice charges against Alabama postal workers unions
The United States Postal Service has filed several unfair labor practice charges against Alabama-based unions of the American Postal Workers Union, alleging failures in good faith bargaining. The disputes primarily involve APWU Local 303 in Birmingham, which represents about 2,000 members. Charges were initiated starting in March of 2024, citing violations of the National Labor Relations Act, including coercion and refusal to process grievances fairly. Similar allegations were also made against smaller APWU locals in Madison and Gadsden. The series of legal challenges suggest broader operational conflicts within Alabama's postal services
that are compounded by infrastructure inefficiencies in Birmingham. The cases remain open, and a USPS spokesperson has refrained from commenting further on these pending labor issues.
