Utah Legislature bans collective bargaining for teachers unions and other public sector jobs
The Utah Legislature passed a bill Thursday banning collective bargaining for all public sector unions. The measure, which now heads to Republican Gov. Spencer Cox, was approved by the Senate in a 16-13 vote after lawmakers rejected a compromise that would have softened the restriction. Supporters argue the bill allows direct negotiations between employers and employees, while opponents, including the Utah Education Association, see it as an attack on workers’ rights. If signed, Utah would become one of the most restrictive states for public sector unions, joining North and South Carolina.
