Valero, Steelworkers Union Agree on Labor Contracts
The Steelworkers Union reached an agreement with U.S. refiner Valero Energy Corp. at the firm's largest refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. Union members will vote on the potential contract next week. Negotiations with other sites are still ongoing, and the company has threatened to close refineries in the event of a union strike. At issue are local benefits and work rules, while wages and safety issues were decided during National talks last week. The Steelworkers did achieve higher pay nationally, but conceded on some safety initiatives.
