Vandy adjuncts vote on forming a union, but elections results are murky
After Vanderbilt’s adjunct faculty voted on forming a union, over 100 votes were contested by the board, the employer, and the union—all three parties involved in the election. If unable to reach a resolution informally, the NLRB will schedule a hearing to determine the validity of the ballots; the results of the election may be delayed for a few weeks at the least. If the vote to organize a union passes, the faculty will be represented by the SEIU and be the first in Tennessee to organize at a private university. Although the university is not pro-union or anti-union, the office of the Provost issued a statement reaffirming their commitment towards their faculty and working with the NLRB.
