Various employees at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Southern California will strike for five days
Healthcare workers in Southern California who work at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center will participate in strike action this whole week. The workers who are on strike are non-nursing healthcare employees, such as lab technicians and emergency medical technicians. These workers are represented by the Service Employees International- United Healthcare West union. The union alleges that hospital management is participating in unfair labor practices, and is not bargaining in good faith. Healthcare employees have also stated that they constantly experience staffing shortages, and the shortages are causing workers to be overworked and fatigued. Providence St. Joseph Medical Center announced that the center is prepared for the strike action, and replacement workers have been temporarily hired to prevent disruptions in medical services.
