Various unions that represent Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority workers have authorized strike action
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority workers who are represented by the Transit Workers Union, have voted to approve potential strike action. Unionized transit workers announced that they will go on strike if a contract agreement is not reached before the end of October. The union and SEPTA management currently disagree about hiring and retention efforts. Workers had stated that there are consistent worker shortages, that result in workers having to work overtime and come in on some of their days off. These issues lead to burnout and fatigue, and these factors increase the risk of safety hazards. Two other unions that represent Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority employees, The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union and The Fraternal Order of Transit Police Lodge union have also authorized strike action.
