Various Wells Fargo commercial bank workers are seeking union representation
Two different Wells Fargo commercial bank locations in the United States have applied for union representation. One of the locations is in New Mexico while the other is in Alaska. The employees seeking unionization include bankers and tellers, and workers filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board, seeking to be represented by the Communications Workers of Americas’ Wells Fargo Workers United. The union was started in 2021, with a primary focus on improving toxic workplace environments and making positive changes to the United States financial system. The company’s most recent shareholder meeting addressed the proposed unionization, and over sixty percent of shareholders voted against the measure. Despite opposition from shareholders, support for unionization is growing and an increasing number of employees are signing the Wells Fargo Workers United petition. Employees have stated distrust and dissatisfaction with company leadership after various Wells Fargo scandals and issues in recent years. In addition, numerous unfair labor practice claims have been filed against Wells Fargo in the past year.
