Veteran Strike Breaker Helps Keep Ralphs Supplied
With the teamsters honoring the picket lines of the United Food and Commercial Union, Ralphs Grocery Store has turned to a veteran strikebreaker, Clifford L. Nuckols. Labor activists are very familiar with his tough tactics. Nuckols was on the front lines in the 70s when strike breaking and union fighting were a lucrative business. Over the years he has been in trouble with the law for fraud, passing bad checks, and failing to pay back wages. His current business is housing replacement workers and driving them in rented vans, past picket lines, each day to work. There are no official statistics on the number of strike breaking companies doing business in the U.S.; employers don't like to admit they hire them and the companies keep a low profile.
