Violence warning as unions plan mass march
The British Trades Union Congress is planning a mass protest for their Saturday. The march on Saturday is expected to draw around 100,000 people, and is against government cuts and tax increases. The TUC says that it is planning a peaceful event meant to encourage a debate about the issues. However, police say that they are worried about a repeat of the student protests in December, when some buildings were vandalized and there were run-ins with police and protesters. While the TUC says that any violence would take away from the real debate, the police say that they are preparing nonetheless. 4,500 police officers will be on duty for the day of the protest.
