Virgin America?s run as last non-union airline to end?
Virgin America may be the last non-unionized U.S. airline after Jet Blue?s flight attendants voted to certify their union earlier this year. Virgin America?s 850 flight attendants have called for a vote for unionization. The union organizing them, TWU international is confident that ?an overwhelming majority? of the flight attendants will vote to unionize. The company said that it respected its flight attendants right to unionize, but expressed doubt that a majority of their employees would vote to join the union. A similar organizing drive by TWU international was held at Virgin America in 2011 where the union was overwhelmingly rejected. Since the petition for the vote was filed with the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday, it is likely that the vote will take place in July.
