Voters Reject Calif. Wal - Mart Supercenter
Despite their promise to bring 1,200 jobs and millions of dollars in sales tax revenue to the area, voters in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood have voted to reject the building of a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Wal-Mart took their proposal directly to the voters after the Inglewood City Council passed a law to block the Supercenter on the grounds that it would put local stores out of business and pay lower wages to its employees.
