VW Mexico, union sit down to talk amid strike
Volkswagen's Mexican subsidiary and autoworker union leaders returned to the bargaining table Thursday night as the third day of a strike dragged on. The strike is already estimated to have caused a 1,000-1,200 count vehicle shortfall. The union has asked for a 3% wage raise and a one-time bonus. The raise is less than half of what they originally asked for, and union president Victor Cervantes says they have been more than flexible already. Volkswagen said late Thursday night that an agreement had not yet been reached but that both sides would continue talks today. The Mexican auto industry, and its employees, have been greatly wounded by the recession in the US, its main export destination.
