Wal-Mart takes action on Uzbekistan child labor
In a move some might deem out of character, Wal-Mart has told its suppliers to stop buying Uzbekistan cotton in an attempt to help end the use of forced child labor there. The announcement comes just shortly after several trade groups had expressed protest, compelling the Uzbekistan government to release a plan specifying moves to halt child labor in cotton harvesting. Wal-Mart claims to have organized an alliance representing 90% of U.S. cotton purchases, and intends to verify Uzbekistan action prior to resuming those purchases.
