Wal-Mart will pay $40m to workers
In the largest wage-and-hour class action settlement in Massachusetts history Wal-Mart will pay $40 million to up to 87,500 current and former in employees in the state. The law suit was filed in 2001, accusing the retailer of not paying overtime, denying employees breaks and changing time cards to lower pay. Lawyers for the plaintiffs wrote that the settlement will remind other employers that payments to workers should be taken seriously.Similar cases have been brought against Wal-Mart across the country, most alleging the same offenses as the Massachusetts case. Wal-Mart agreed to pay $640 million in December to settle 63 other court cases.
