Wal-Mart workers limit gender-bias suit to California stores
After the Supreme Court said that a case failed to prove that Wal-Mart had a nationwide discriminatory hiring policy, lawyers have filed a case that will limit gender-bias claims to only California workers. The lawsuit alleges that Wal-Mart stopped women from getting promotions and paid them less than men who were doing the same work. The suit has been amended to take into account the Supreme Court's ruling, and is limited to women who worked at California Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores from December 1998 to the present. The suit could cover up to 95,000 workers. Wal-Mart said that it does not think the new case satisfies the Supreme Court ruling.
