Walker's World: France's general strike
One week after 60,000 French students and faculty protested President Nicolas Sarkozy's education reforms, labor leaders have called a general strike nationwide Thursday to condemn the effects of Sarkozy's economic reforms. With unemployment rampant, the strike is expected to affect public transit and schools the hardest, along with government offices and private industry. The strike comes as part of a rising tide of bitterness toward business leaders, as the head of Sony's French division was detained by employees angered over possible layoffs, and board members at Continental tire were attacked with eggs by workers.
