Walmart, Gap Announce Bangladesh Factory Safety Plan With Other North American Retailers
A group of 20 North American retailers including Walmart, Gap and Macy?s signed on to a 5-year safety plan for garment factories in Bangladesh on Wednesday. The agreement entails inspections of all garment factories within the year and will be funded by the member companies. Called the Bangladesh Worker Safety Initiative, the goals of the plan include coordinating safety standards and encouraging worker participation committees. An alliance of European retailers signed a similar agreement Monday.
