Walmart to permanently cease operations of Health centers and Health Virtual Care
Walmart announced that it would be closing all of its Health centers, and would be shutting down the operations of its Health Virtual Care services as well. Walmart had numerous Health Centers located in five states: Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, and Florida. Walmart was struggling with worker shortages at its Health Centers, and the shortage of workers led to increasing labor costs that were no longer sustainable. Walamrt also had difficulties retaining medical professionals for its Health Virtual Care services, which it acquired from MeMD in 2021. Walmart also faced steep competition from Amazon, which recently opened various Amazon One Medical Centers. Despite the closures of Walmart Health Centers, Walmart will continue operating its pharmacies and vision centers.
