Walmart Will Raise Wages for 425,000 Workers
Walmart is the nation's largest private employer. Today, Walmart announced that it will be raising the wages of 425,000 workers. The wage increases mean that about half of the retailer’s 1.5 million workers in the United States would earn at least $15 an hour. Walmart executives continue to insist that the wage increase was not a response to the growing political movement to increase the minimum wage. Instead executives said that the wage increase is a part of a broader plan to reward and retain employees in the most crucial and fastest growing parts of its business, focused on online grocery pickup and delivery.
