Warner Brothers has announced it will slash about 10% of its global workforce, for a total of 800 jobs lost. The company reported a 25% increase in ticket sales for 2008, but slowing DVD sales and anticipated declines are motivating the studio to make cutbacks. Many of the jobs affected were in support functions like technology ? roles the company will now seek to outsource ? but layoffs were generally firmwide. Warner Brothers is just one of many firms to attempt to cut costs throughout the entertainment industry over the past year.
