Wearable Technology Creeps Into The Workplace
Wearable technology is increasingly being used by employers to encourage good health habits (Fitbits), to monitor physical and mental alertness (SmartHats for drivers), and to find inventory in large warehouses (GPS tags). Even more advanced are companies such as Epicenter in Sweden, who are doing away with electronic keycards by implanting microchips that allow employees to enter the office, set the alarm system, register loyalty points at nearby retailers and access gyms. Wearable technology can improve productivity, but the cons are the risks of loss, data theft, and an overly oppressive work atmosphere.
