Weather workers join mass German strikes
Contract negotiations between German public service workers and the government intensified as meteorologists for Germany's national weather service and statisticians conducted a warning strike in protest of the governments refusal to meet their demands. The warning strike added to a recent wave of such moves all across Germany by bus workers, canal workers, teachers, bankers and sanitation workers. The public service union is demanding an 8 percent raise for all workers, as opposed to the offer of a 5 percent raise by the government.
