WHO and ILO released a new guide to protect health workers
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have released a new guide that encourages the development and implementation of stronger occupational health and safety programs for health workers. WHO noted that countries that have implemented these types of programs have experienced increased productivity and retention of workers as well as reductions in work-related injuries and sickness-related absences. WHO’s health workforce department director said in a statement, “COVID-19 has exposed the cost of the systemic lack of safeguards for the health, safety, and well-being of health workers.”
