Why McDonald?s Wage Hike Won?t Help Most Of Its Employees (Yet)
McDonald's announcement Wednesday it would raise wages for many of its employees will not impact most workers at the fast food franchise, according to experts from both the food industry and labor relations. The raises would effect only employees working at restaurants owned by McDonald's itself, and not franchises owned independently, which make up the vast bulk of workers at McDonald's worldwide. The announcement has drawn the ire of labor leaders who claim it functions largely as a PR move in the wake of the ongoing hearings regarding the new "joint employer" status, but hope that franchises will be forced to move to keep up with corporate policy.
