Wisconsin Governor Rescinds Layoff Notices
The Wisconsin State Assembly passed the bill which will limit workers rights to bargain collectively, limiting wages and other provisions that will hamper public sector unions. The vote was delayed as protesters filled the Capitol and police shut down the building, even locking out legislators, who climbed in through windows. As a result of the vote, governor Scott Walker has rescinded the 1,500 layoff notices that he gave to state workers. The Governor says that the changes to collective bargaining will get rid of the need for layoffs. Republicans say that the bill was a necessary step, and that the Democratic Senators who fled the state made their actions acceptable. While opponents of the bill are extremely upset about its passage, they are also working on recall efforts and are enjoying a large amount of support from both the state and the country.
