Wisconsin Judge Voids Collective Bargaining Law
A Wisconsin circuit court judge voided a law that took away most collective bargaining rights from public workers. The judge ruled that the legislature had violated open meeting laws requiring 24 hours notice in passing the bill. The matter will now move to the state Supreme Court, which will hear arguments on June 6 before deciding whether to take the case. Supporters of the bill can pass it again without violating the open meeting laws, but opponents say that they will continue to challenge the overall legality of the bill. The bill cause weeks of protest in Wisconsin, and drew national attention to collective bargaining rights.
