Wisconsin Republicans reject all of Democratic amendments to bill as union protests spread across Midwestern states
The Wisconsin Assembly held an all night session to hear some of the proposed amendments to the bill that would slash collective bargaining rights. At 5:30 am, only 7 amendments had been considered, and all were rejected. The Democrats plan to bring over 2000 amendments to the table, in an effort to slow the vote on the bill. Protesters say that they are willing to take the pay cuts in the bill, but want to retain their collective bargaining rights. A Republican Senator has proposed making the elimination of collective bargaining rights temporary, but the Governor says that he will not change his mind. He says that the collective bargaining process is an impediment to the budget. Democratic Senators are remaining out of state while thousands continue to protest in Madison.
