Wisconsin's rallying cry: Throw the bums out
Volunteers in Wisconsin are gathering signatures for recalls of 16 state senators, eight from each party. On Friday, the first recall petition was filed against one of the Republican Senators who voted for the anti-union bill. The bill has been temporarily halted, after a judge ruled that its passage was not consistent with public meetings laws. It is widely expected to end up in the State Supreme Court, leading to a push to unseat an incumbent Republican judge. For many, Wisconsin's law is a departure from normal state politics, and they question the motives of both sides. The bill would take away most collective bargaining rights from public sector workers, but would not apply to firefighters, police and state troopers.
