Women More Likely Than Men to Get Hurt in IT Workplaces
In a field where relatively few injuries occur, they happen to occur more often to women than men. U.S. Department of Labor data indicates that female IT employees are more likely to get hurt than their male counterparts. Though the overall numbers are low, women in IT suffered 60% of the injuries in 2004, 66% in 2005, and 57% in 2006. However, most the injuries occurring at IT employers actually had little to do with the job; rather, many injuries were sprains and strains incurred from falls. Some speculate footwear is to blame, pointing out that many women wear heels. Injuries are defined as "anything more than a Band-Aid".
